About Blacktop Barbershop – Faith, Family and Fresh Cuts
Blacktop Barbershop isn’t just a place to get a haircut — it’s a story of resilience, faith, innovation, and a passion for people.
The idea began during one of the most uncertain times in recent history.
When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down businesses across the country, Mitchell Thomas found himself in a position he had never been in before — unable to do what he loved. But staying idle was never an option.
“A haircut is powerful,” Mitchell says. “It can impact you mentally and physically.”
Determined to get back to work and continue serving his clients, he started asking a simple question:
Innovation
How do you innovate in barbering?
Barbering has been around forever. The traditions are strong. But Mitchell saw an opportunity to do something different.
After watching countless videos of people transforming vans and buses online, an idea clicked — what if he could bring the barbershop to the streets?
That idea became Blacktop Barbershop.

Mitchell purchased a 13-seat limo bus and with the help of close friend Andy Roiniotis, and other friends and family, transformed the bus. What was once built for parties became a fully functional mobile barbershop — designed to deliver clean, professional cuts in a completely unique setting.
By late 2020, Blacktop Barbershop officially hit the road.

The story quickly gained attention. Local news outlets across Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee picked it up. Every major Milwaukee television station featured Mitchell and Blacktop Barbershop, drawn to the powerful origin story born out of adversity and creativity.
But for Mitchell, it was never about the headlines.
It was about getting back to what matters — people.
Born and raised in Southeast Wisconsin, Mitchell grew up playing youth sports — CYC basketball, Little League baseball, Rec Plex football — building the same sense of community he brings into his work today. After a shoulder injury ended his college baseball career, he returned home to pursue his passion for barbering.
That passion shows in every cut.
